ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW: The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is the national organization creating hope in a comprehensive way through research, patient support, community outreach and advocacy for a cure. The organization is leading the way to increase the survival for people diagnosed with this devastating disease through a bold initiative -- The Vision of Progress: Double Pancreatic Cancer Survival by 2020. Together, we can know, fight and end pancreatic cancer by intensifying our efforts to heighten awareness, raise funds for comprehensive private research, and advocate for dedicated federal research to advance early diagnostics, better treatments and increase chances of survival. The Research Grants Program was introduced in 2003. Since then, over $28 million in funding has been awarded through 123 grants to 122 scientists at 51 institutions. The grants portfolio is diverse and includes early career awards and grants that fund high potential, high impact translational and clinical research. Grants range from $45,000 to $2,000,000 over one to three years. In 2016, $6.8 million will be awarded. POSITION OVERVIEW: We are seeking a bright, ambitious and team-oriented individual who is comfortable in a growing and fast paced organization to fill the newly created position of Grants Program Manager. This position will serve as the Program Officer and key initial point of contact for grant applicants and their institutions. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable of grantmaking and have hands-on experience in all aspects of the grants process. A background in the biomedical sciences is preferred but not essential. The position works closely with the Director of the Research Grants Department to develop and implement an evolving and rigorous Research Grants Program that is aligned with organizations mission and priorities. As part of our Community for Progress initiative, the Grants Program Manager develops, implements and monitors activities that engage grantees with the organization and build a robust pipeline of scientists dedicated to studying pancreatic cancer. This position works closely with the scientific team and other departments to ensure effective integration and coordination of efforts. The idea candidate will have two years or more of grantmaking experience as a Program Officer or equivalent position at a foundation or other grantmaking organization. A Bachelors degree is required; graduate degree preferred in the biomedical sciences, public health or social sciences. This position requires a self-starter who is highly motivated with excellent judgment, and solid critical thinking and analytic skills and must be able to successfully manage a large, complex workflow with multiple deadlines, data points, and priorities. Must be able to produce complex, excel-and word-based reports that provide statistics, demographics, reviewer ratings and other numerical and text-based data.
